Oral Reading Fluency

This assessment is appropriate for all students at this grade level at the middle of the year (MOY) and at the end of the year (EOY).

Informal Reading Inventory

This assessment is appropriate for all students at this grade level at the beginning of the year (BOY),  middle of the year (MOY) and at the end of the year (EOY).

• To access the passages for the assessment, print or download the DIBELS 8th Edition PM Grade 1 ORF Student Materials. 
  • Passage one is located on pg. 2.
  • Passage two is located on pg. 15.
  • Passage three is located on pg. 28.
  • Print the passage you plan to use. 
  • For a virtual copy of each passage, and teacher recording forms, view or share the IRL First Grade Passages. 
• Allow the student to read the passage aloud. Record any errors as the student reads.
• Once the student has completed the passage, ask each of the Informal Reading Inventory questions (beginning on pg. 2) that correspond to the target passage.
• Complete the assessment by asking the child to retell as much as they remember about the story. As the student retells the story, check off the ideas, details, and elements listed.
• Use the results of this assessment to determine student comprehension instruction needs.
