Implementing a Great Hybrid Learner Rubric (A Community of Learners)

Google Doc version (to print or share): Implementing a Great Hybrid Learner Rubric

Objective

To design and implement a work-habits and behavioral rubric that sets, models, and reinforces classroom expectations.

Read through the Great Hybrid Learner Rubric that fits the grade level(s) that you teach or support. The linked PDF includes levels from primary up to high school.

The estimated activity time is 45-60 minutes.

Stop & Think

Key (T – teacher; SL – school leader; DL – district leader)

  • How could the Great Hybrid Learner Rubric establish expectations for your students’ work habits and behavioral expectations in a remote/hybrid learning environment? (T)
  • How could you use the rubric in conversations with parents or caregivers? (T, SL)
  • How might you introduce the rubric to students? (T, SL)
  • In what ways could you model the expectations for students? (T, SL)
  • What elements of the rubric might you adapt to fit the needs of your student population? (T, SL)

Brainstorm and Design

For the rubric of your choosing, design a plan to implement it in your classroom or school. Consider the following:

  • Ways you will model the language used in the rubric
  • A plan for students to self-assess
  • A row on which to focus each week or so as you support students in achieving your expectations
  • A time for conferencing with students to discuss their self-assessment and how it connects to academic performance
  • A time for goal-setting
  • Ways for students to co-create any of the bullets or expert-level work habit and behavior goals
